Craigslist Site Difficulties

I'm hoping there are some CL experts here. I was going to post about this on the CL "Help Desk" forum, but the problem I'm having, unfortunately, precludes my ability to do so.

Many years ago (probably ten), I used Craigslist to sell a very few things; a pair of Pioneer speakers, and an old 12' fiberglass fishing boat. Hadn't used it since until a few weeks ago, and whatever email I used way back then (don't remember what it was) isn't in service any more anyway.

I needed to sell my wife's ML500, as it was no longer viable in terms of a reliable daily driver for her, so I opened a new CL account, paid the $5 auto listing fee, and sold it within 24 hours (GREAT!). An all around great, fast, easy experience (except for being exposed to some new scams I hadn't seen before but was wary enough to easily avoid becoming ensnared). That whet my appetite to offload some other large items I'll never use again... a pair of Yamaha 3115H PA speakers (big heavy suckers, but did a great job when I was on the road) and a Crown PowerBase-1 amp. I listed them, successfully, and edited/renewed the posting once. I also listed a robotic pool vacuum device for my Dad. That's it... two listings. No nibbles yet, other than one immediate "I'll send you a request for a verification code" scammer on the PA stuff.

Here's the thing... almost everytime I login, and I'm SURE I'm using the correct password, it requires and sends me an email verification, and I have to "change" my password. I can access the account, but it's a weird amount of steps. I just put in the same password, it accepts it as a change, and I'm in. However, once I access my account and try to add a "handle" for the forums, I get the following error message..

"Users who are blocked from posting and/or overwriting are not allowed to create new handles."

Makes no sense. As far as I know, I'm not blocked; I've been able to post and edit. I DID, even though I was already logged in, have to go through the stupid email verification thing AGAIN just to pull up that error message when trying to access and post on the forums.

Tech info... Brave browser, but not blocking scripts, on a Win 10 desktop or Android tablet; same thing happens on both. No vpn or other IP obscuration protocols.

Anyone have any insight? I"ve used the "contact us" form on Craigslist, but have not received a response of any kind.

Thanks to any CL pro who can shed some light on this.

CL has changed front page & format, no improvements for users I've seen so far. They just can't let something alone when it works, typical in the IT world. They just gotta do something to justify their existence/ paychecks, so to eff things up is the s.o.p. Presumably your experience may be related to this. I've not listed anything lately so I can't relate any new hassle there- yet.

Yea. I've never seen the problem you're having.
I'd try the previous suggestion...new email and new craigslist account.

Thanks for the replies. If I can't solve the issue, I guess (yet another) burner email account is in the cards. Oh well.

Someone had mentioned OfferUp, but that post seems to have disappeared....? Anyway, I setup an account for that, too, then saw that the only way to post an ad was through the app... which I hate... but I sucked it up and put it on my phone. Posted three ads. The very next day... they were all "archived" and I couldn't "unarchive" them because now, after the fact, they want me to do something called "TruYou," where you get to upload photos of your license, selfies, etc. SCREW THAT.

Have to tried facebook marketplace ? Don't bother if you don't already have a facebook account.

When I switched jobs from UCLA to UC Santa Barbara, I used CL to find a rental space in SB and to find a renter for my LA County house. Both schemes worked out. Perfectly. Only time in my life, ever, that I used CL and everything came off w/out a hitch.

Seems too often be a hitch like that to suck data from those gullible enough to fall for it. SCREW THAT indeed!

I do understand that that's pretty much the most effecting online selling venue, but I'm a (very) conscientious facebook abstainer. It's a shame that there's no real easy way to advertise and sell stuff just locally these days. The PA and saxophone stuff I'm trying to sell is really too big and heavy to ship feasibly and reasonably.

I've had good luck on CL. Almost everything sells...from $15 up to $800. Plenty of weird emails as well, common sense is required.
Hopefully you can get the mess straightened out.

No can do. Not Facebooked, Not LinkedIn. Just lil' ol' me, on the outside, lookin' in, and happy to be on the outside.
You & a whole bunch of others, inc. me. Have a dormant LinkedIn, but being retired, who needs it? I thought I deleted it, but still get an occasional headhunters email yet.:dunno:

I used to buy/sell on Craigslist but in the last few years, I feel its turned into a sewer, scammers mainly. I use FB Marketplace now and its a bit better but there are still scammers and people who have poor comprehension skills and ask stupid questions because they can't understand something like - don't ask if item is still available. If the ad is up, it's available. I don't do Facebook tho - just use it for Marketplace. It sucks there aren't better alternatives.
