Craigslist speaker carnage

The ad does say that the crossovers are original although $75 does seem high just to get a crossovers, but what do I know?

Why. Why would this ever be done?

Granted, I can't talk. Around age 10 I replaced the woofers in my dad's Cizek Model Twos with cheap car speakers instead of re-foaming them. With his help and blessings. Years later I'm pretty sure they were thrown away... Yes, I have regrets.

Many (I'd even say "most") don't have any idea what's involved in designing a speaker, they just figure it's a few drivers thrown into a box, and the drivers were chosen simply by whatever the manufacturer was making at the time. They figure "hey, these are better woofers than what's in there, they'll make the system sound better, especially since the old ones are shot (i.e. need refoaming). And since I'm upgrading the woofers, I might as well do the same for the mids and tweeters. Hear that booming bass? Hear those sibilant highs? That's good sound right there!"

Fellow AKer Tyella texted me a pic of a pair of Rectilinear Highboys he found at a garage sale on Saturday. Painted WHITE. :dunno: At least they are all original otherwise.
