And without tone controls to reduce the brightness in THAT combination??
Much too harsh, I'd say.

When I read that I MUST listen with the controls set flat or with no control at all I can't help thinking pleasure (listening to music) has been forgotten and now we obey commandments. I'm 50 and I suffer from the logical hearing loss at high frequencies. Now I wonder: should I turn up the knob and recover the lost signal or stick to the high priest's orders? I keep the loudness button on; Am I risking my soul? Should I repent for this horrible sin?
Because what you are doing is very very wrong,it is a mortal sin.
My room acustics does not dictate how the sound should sound like. There are no rooms I'm aware of are perfect for music listening unless it was design for it. Like I stated before, I sure would hate to purchase my plasma flat screen TV with no ability to control my picture quailty - that would SUCK royale! So what if those brits like their gear have no tone controls that doesn't make it right! clint e. said:Hey SX,
Do you know,in the final mix, what the position where the sound engineers put the tone controls ?
Yes,they use all the effects and parametric sound controls in the recording process, but in the final listening they ear with all and i mean all the tone controlls in flat position.![]()
Of course,in your home you can put or take,if you like,a little bass or treble. Mostly because of your room sound acustics are not good.
But,if you have a good room for listening music you must put the tone controls in flat, because that's the way music was done to listen by the engineers.
You surely know, maybe better than me,that many amplifiers British brands doesn't have any tone controls... :scratch2:
Anyway Viva la Musica,
wich is all that matters. :thmbsp:

nah I'll stick to the tone controls.Negotiableterms said:Between the gain controls on the active crossover and the little knobs and switches on the backs of the speakers, you can effectively get the sound where you like it and not even have tone controls!

john_w said:BTW: Anyone use a graphic EQ out there? Maybe even a digital one? I'm surprised no-one's mentioned those yet.

clint e. said:Hey SX,
You can use and abuse of your tone controls if you feel that your music sounds better that way but, please do not try to compare two completly different things:
Sound and image.
Have fun.

One reproduces just sound and the other both audio and video, can you please elaberate your definition of " two different things? :scratch2:![]()
