Hi All,
So here's the deal: I bought a pair of Telefunken 12AT7 tubes from Cries55 and didn't receive what I paid for.
This is the thread where the transaction transpired.
What I did receive was one TFK 12AT7 and one TFK 'not 12AT7', and I admit that at first I thought it was an ECC801 (special 12AT7) and that I had made off like a bandit, but I later posted a thread because I still wasn't completely sure on what the 'not 12AT7' tube was, and there it was determined that it was a 6AQ8 tube.
At this point I'm not angry, just a little shocked (mainly because it wasn't a super 12AT7) and had a bit of a sinking feeling. I check the list of tubes I need for a Fisher R-200 rebuild I'm working on and sure enough, the 6AQ8 tube is on the list; so all in all, not a total loss.
I communicate on the forums that I didn't receive a pair 12AT7 tubes, but that it was fine and no sore feelings on my end.
Cries55 PMed me multiple times with apologies and vows to make my situation right. I responded that I was fine with where we stood, but that if it was eating away at him that he could make the call.
His reply conveyed much relief and vowed again to make things right, with the offer to send me ANYTHING from the list on his dime.
At this point I'm more than happy with the result and grateful for the feeling of community that this site brings.
Bottom Line: Draw your own conclusions, but I guess I'm flawed to a point where I try to see the best in everyone. Sometimes I get burned, sure, but I didn't get what I paid for and I would deal with cries55 again, as long as I remember to ask for photos of what I'm buying ahead of time.
I do feel a bit bad because he sold me a lot of tubes for less than he was asking, and now he'll be out a bit more making up for a mistake due to lack of knowledge of his wares.
We all learn lessons one way or another, but the karma always works out.
