Crosley to Open Record Pressing Plant

I may be wrong. Just a hunch, but the fact that the are now making legit entry level turntables with real cartridges hopefully indicates they are looking at doing things differently.

I've been thinking about going by their headquarters and asking them about their future plans.

Bajaed while your there talking to the Crosley folks ask them why they aren't mfg their products in the USA with parts/material sourced from the USA and employing Americans to build their products instead of importing junk turntables from China.

"Marketing" might be a more accurate word than "making" for the new, higher-quality Crosley offerings. Their most expensive model appears to be a re-badged Pro-Ject, and the two models immediately below it in the line look like Hanpins.

That's kind of like letting your kid sister that can't do anything right cook thanksgiving dinner for the entire family. Or having your alcoholic uncle promise he'll stop drinking !

Still a step up from their previous products. If they feel there is room to wander upmarket, I don't think the vinyl resurgence is going anywhere for a while.

LOL, do you look like Archie Bunker too? Said tongue-in-cheek...

Yeah I thought I had heard they were rebadged Pro-Jects. Still a cheap alternative to the nail on a piece of plastic.

People that don't know audio equipment know Crosley. I think it will be great if those folks start buying real turntables like the one linked above for the kids, grandkids or themselves. That they are moving in that direction says to me they realize they needed to step up the product line. I would think they wouldn't make the huge investment of buying all that equipment, shipping it from Europe and building a plant just to turn out bad product.

I'll go down there and make sure though.

Looking or thinking like Archie Bunker I'll take that as a compliment. Years ago Crosley was a fairly respected name, you can tell them that they have dragged the Crosley name threw dog **** and their products from "overseas" are best suited for the nearest dumpster. It wouldn't take much effort to set up a USA based production line similar to what U-Turn did to mfg decent quality entry level turntables.

Well from my understanding, pressing records is much different than designing a tonearm. If they're buying a plant that's already been in operation, then the important hardware for quality records will be there. And honestly, more options for musicians to press their compositions should drive down pressing cost while allowing a larger number of artists to circulate on format. I remember asking my local record store if they got the new Kendrick album when it came out, and they immediately told me he couldn't find anyone to press enough of them in time, so the LP release was an afterthought.

I hope I'm not proved wrong by Crosley producing crap. Yamaha makes great hifi and terrible instruments. The larger a company gets, the more chance for quality variance

Asilker there's no doubt Crosley will follow their present business model which would be the record pressing equipment and mfg of records will be done overseas, either in china or one of the former soviet block countries, by unskilled lowest possible wage employees. I'll make a safe bet that the Crosley records will be crap.

Possibly. However unlike the cheap turntables they make (which find an understandable marketplace at their price point) if they start churning out seriously substandard vinyl LPs they'll soon discover they've backed the wrong horse. I was going to say their name would be mud, but it already is.

And yes, the "better" Crosley decks are definitely rebadged Pro-Jects.

Crosley has introduced many to vinyl, but their products are so subpar. Maybe they will get serious and become the comman man's Pro-ject.

True but they're moving upscale a bit. Some of their more recent offerings are based on the mid-level Hanpin turntables and they also have a $400.00 turntable on offer these days.

Now, I'm not trying to say that any of these are worthy of praise but it seems that Crosley is trying to move their customer base toward better turntables. That's not a bad thing at all.

Who knows, maybe they can do a hyundai? Start selling out crap products then graduate into producing truly high quality products. People used to thumb their noses up at their cars before but no one's definitely laughing them now.
Hopefully they would only come out with quality products and that the record studios won't just contract with them just to make a quick buck. That'll be like asking the fox to watch over the goose that lays the golden eggs.

I look at it this way, hopefully Crosley will produce a great product at a great value. As for their tables, I dont think they are fueling the vinyl resurgence and by no means do I think they will kill it. I think they are riding the wave like a lot of companies are. It looks like they are at least starting to offer some decent hardware even if they do outsource it. Someone made the Hyundai reference, remember when Mazda didnt have a decent car on the market outside of the RX7? until they partnered with Ford. Then for many years they were putting out better products than Ford. So there is hope. I will say though being in manufacturing good equipment doesnt mean a good product. Its all about processes and quality control. With those things in place you can put out a great product with subpar equipment. Without them they could have the most technologically advanced pressing plant in the world and just as well be pressing plastic plates for the grocery store.

Is that 22 original hits on side "A" only? :D

Funny thing is ..... I actually bought this record back then and still have it. Classic! ;)

That's for both sides. I remember the ads for that Lp on TV as a kid. I too have it. My brother had the 8-track for use on his Muntz player.

The local arena (Berwick, Nova Scotia) played one over a cheap RS PA for public skating. The same one. For a year. Never off the BSR changer and the dust gathered on it...
