Cross reference Again!

Been searching this site, back in 2007, still no results, other than doing a broad search online. I use the nte site, but as previously mentioned does seem a little unreliable! I do have some of the older books, but they don’t list a lot of the stuff, like diodes. Is there an online site for most semiconductor that gives a cross reference for vintage stuff? What are you Tech using, or is it your experience or engineering skills? The only other comparisons are Ebay which claims all kinds of things! Thanks!

I have a stack of old tube and transistor data books and cross reference books, plus I usually search the part on the web. Get the best specs I can and then search the part houses for the best current match. What parts are you looking for? If you post the part numbers and what they are for, maybe myself or someone on here will have a match for you.

Have gotten some help on here. But some of it was contradictory it’s a double diode in a vintage stereo amp! Sta2100! Vd1221! Some are comparing with the vd1212! Nec shows it as a vaseter temp compensate diode, and others a fast switching rectifier diode! I don’t know what the difference is if any, I’m a DIY guy. Getting 2 general fast, switching dies and series.1n4148x2 as a substitution! Ebay has them as all the same! So I’m confused! Nte shows vd1221=nte605a, and vd1212=nte177! So I am lost!

it really is situation specific. Sometimes there is an obvious alternative. Usually there are a couple options. You need to consider what the designer's intent was and what the limitations of the original design was, and often how much (more) power it can provide.

Thankfully you can search and use other's experience, ain't many new wheels being invented. There are parts that are not readily replaced, and either the internet will tell you it's unobtainium or what workarouond somebody figured out. But NEVER use ebay as a cross reference. There will always be somebody blurring the lines to try to unload their otherwise useless parts.

where do you get that a 1n4148 is a fast switch rectifier diode?

they are small signal switching diodes.

i thought that you were answered about vd1221 in your other thread. :dunno:

why are you still paying attention to anything that nte has to say?:dunno:

I got one solution! If you read the complete post, I was asking if there was one diode that would take the place of the two in series 1n4148 deal! And I am as I said, a diy guy, and only found the nte cross reference site in my search and inquiring on here in the past and present! Sorry if I offended anyone, it was unintentional! I gave thanks to all my post responses!

i'm not offended but you asked the same question in your other thread and got the correct answer :dunno:

just stay away from nte when there are other solutions whether its 1 diode or 2 diodes.:thumbsup:

Your repair tech?

When I test things in circuit, I ALWAYS compare them with the opposite channel if that's available. That way, if I get a reading that's off of what I expect, if the two sides roughly match, it's LIKELY due to interference from other components in the circuit Otherwise, I pull a leg and test...
