for a crossover cap, can you use a poly film cap in place of a Non polar electrolytic. same value and voltage.:scratch2:
thanks

Usually fine. Only problem would be if you found the sound too "bright" afterward (poly film caps usually have lower dissipation and ESR than electrolytics, leading to more signal transfer in some cases).

If that happens, just put an electrolytic back in. Otherwise, put in the poly film, and enjoy. Won't have to replace that cap again, if it's a poly...

Gordon.

You might read some reviews of various caps. It makes for intesting reading as not all poly caps are created equally! The high dollar "boutique" caps do have ardent followers for a good reason. I can attest to the fact the Solen caps do actually sound brighter that asame value Dayton types.

If you plan on being "fussy" about your sound- investigate your caps. If all you actually want is a basicly improved sound with longevity then your "average" Dayton, etc cap is the ticket. There is a lot to learn about quality caps. I for one am quite happy with a good generic poly or mylar cap and seldom ever have need for the boutique types!

Chances are, the voltage rating of the new poly cap will be considerably higher than that of the electrolytic it's replacing...which is fine.

you got that rite, mark

I placed an order with parts connection for all Axon caps. they all fit the bill.
Daytons didnt all match.

Axons are good. Not as "bright" as Solen (which is a good thing, IMHO). I'd put them on a par with the Bennic/Dayton and Jantzen caps, as far as tonal balance is concerned. Maybe a little better quality...

at parts connexion Axon were all on sale and they had the 33/250 polly cap needed for the 33/100 np electro at far less than the huge amount Id seen elsewhere.
parts connexion has alot of good capacitors. Never had shopped there before. But will do more now. An AK sponser

Depends on your budget. I figure if you're going to do it once you might as well spent a few extra bucks.
