With the L-pad in the position that you like, measure the resistance across the coil and the resistance in series with the coil. After knowing those values, you can find a close (10 watt or more) resistors and solder them into the circuit. If you just take the L-pads out, the circuit design will be compromised, and the results may be very desirable. BTW, I speak from experience on this very issue.
