Crossover re-Cap Questions

I re-foamed a pair of Cerwin Vega D2s and now I want to re-cap the crossovers. The current capacitors are 1 MFD and 4.7 MFD 50 V. Is it OK to use 250 V replacements? I might add that the 4.7 MFD cap is tiny, like 1/2" long.

There's also something marked CULVER 06A-50 in the crossover. From what I can tell it is a self-resetting circuit breaker. Is this correct?

The higher voltages are fine as replacements. Use at least 125volts. The higher the voltage, the bigger the cap. And I believe the Culver component is a circuit breaker.

The Culver is indeed a circuit breaker for the tweeters. My Infinity RS4b uses them too.

You will have LOTS of very good (upgraded) options in the 1, 4.7uF ranges to choose from.

I recently recapped a pair of JBL L50s and my usual source for caps was out of many of the values I needed. I took a gamble on using Supertech MPT Yellow Film Capacitors that are being sold on the Big Auction site. I am very pleased with the results, so I will probably go the same route. Just about anything has to be an upgrade from the original caps.

The Culver is indeed a circuit breaker for the tweeters. My Infinity RS4b uses them too.

Is that circuit breaker resettable? Or do you need to replace it once it trips?

It resets itself within a few seconds... my RS4b crossovers also have a thermal switch that resets after it cools down (right next to the circuit breaker in my pic), but I've never had either of them trip, the Onkyo M-508 amp I powered them with for 35 years always went into protection first.

I finally got around to re-capping the Cerwin Vega D2s with Supertech MPT Yellow Film Capacitors. What a nice improvement, the old caps must have been shot. There is more clarity in the mid-range and the sound stage is more presant. Improved detail in the sound. They also appear to be pretty efficient, as they sound louder than the speakers I am compared them to.
