Crossovers for Altec Valencia

First time post!
I have a set of Altec 1209-8a crossovers and a set of Altec Valencia/846B speakers and was wondering if I could rebuild them as Model 19/1201-8a crossovers to use in the Valencia's and what schematic or crossover component values I would use to rebuild the 1209's as 1201's/Model 19?
Thanks is advance for any help! :thmbsp:

I wouldn't touch the originals, keep them as is, you might need them intact latter.
That is if they are working.

If i were going to duplicate the model 19 crossover, i would build the Z-19 crossovers and leave the 1209s as is. I don't see any real benefits until you upgrade H.F. drivers to 802-D, 802-8G, or 902s, and use model 19 sized boxes. YMMV

The model 19 uses the larger and more efficient 802 driver where the 846B uses the 806 driver, I think there's about a 2.2db sensitivity difference. Your location on your profile is not filled in so we don't know if you're local to anyone that can help you out.

If the horn driver is a problem (not enough level and/or high frequency output), then change it out for a B&C DE250 or Selenium D2500Ti-Nd-OMF. Those will take care of business, and will fit inside the 846 cabinet (not run into the rear cabinet wall like an 802/808/902 will)...

Regards,
Gordon.

Don't know how long you've had the Valencias, but if you listen to them long enough, their failings seem to become less noticeable, and its easy just to listen to them without worrying about upgrades. My tweeter diaphragms were bad, so out of curiosity I put in a pair of Selenium drivers, and haven't felt the necessity to do anything else.
I know they aren't flat, I know they are colored and frequency limited, and it just doesn't bother me much. After 35 years of different speakers, either I've given up, or I really like what the Valencias do well. Or they are so damn big I just don't want to move them. But the Transtatics are even bigger, and I abandoned them for the Valencias.

If you decide to upgrade the HF drivers the 902's will fit in the 646B box no problem. The 802 series would require cutting a hole in the back and adding some sort of cover plate.

I have 846B's and installed 902's in them without modifying anything. Other than I went to a active crossover.
