Crown XLS 2000 Amp For Infinity RS IIb's?

Hey guys, I know alot of people are against pro audio amps for home audio applications, but I was just wondering if a Crown XLS 2000 is too much for the speakers? What I want to know is would it be too much power to harm the speakers in any way? Thanks!

Crown Specs: 375 watts per channel at 8 ohms, 650 watts per channel at 4 ohms

i ran a pair of crown xti 1002's in bridged mono mode (1000w @ 8 ohm, 1400w @ 4 ohm) with no issues. the trick is "dont turn it up too loud" and you'll be fine. the xls 2000 (like the xti 1002) has gain controls on the front which let you set what you want the max volume to go to. you could dial that in at 1/4 so if you do turn up your preamp you wont be pushing max power to your speakers.

Oh okay, that makes sense! I ordered the XLS 2000 and it should be here tomorrow!! (VERY excited) Now I read that this amp has a Total Harmonic Distortion of .5, that seems like alot compared to my pre amp which is .07. Do you think this will cause a problem?
 
typically, THD will be +/- based on db level. i dont imagine you will notice any changes in sound quality. the only reason i stopped using the crown amps i have is because i wanted all of my equipment to match (from same manufacturer).

I bought a Crown XLS 1500 (very similar to the 2000) a couple of weeks ago having been told by a friend that it's better than his Audio Research Reference 110 amp! ... and it is just fine into my MBL speakers. In fact, it sounds genuinely excellent especially with balanced connections (XLR) and fits very nicely in my 'audiophile' system - as opposed to semi-pro / DJ which I don't do.

I was kind of put off by the idea of a fan - but it is very quiet indeed and not an issue for me.

Fast and detailed with genuinely good imaging, with a bottomless pit of power delivery - its just unfazed by anything. Just use it sensibly and I think you'll love it!

Wow!!! Better than an Audio Research Amp!? That's awesome!!!! I'll let you guys know how it sounds once I get it set up! :)
 
I'm an audiophile kind of guy but I have toyed with 'pro amps' a little in the past ...

A UK BK amp (previous to their current class D range) was tedious in the extreme - just bland and boring and put me off the genre for quite a while.

A pro Yamaha P7000S - much better but a bit thin and stark sounding with an overly lean (but taut) bass and a bit too forward even for my tastes which have forward tendencies!

The Crown, however, seems to be a much more audiophile type of device and sounds to me to be genuinely excellent.
My main amp at the moment is a NAD S300 integrated (aka Gryphon Tabu Century) and edges the Crown in terms of image focus (I've not heard a better imaging amp than the NAD), but tonal quality, resolution, dynamics and speaker control are all top class, imo.

Pro amps seem to be coming along just fine for us hifi types, and at a considerable advantage in pricing! Well worth investigating, imho.

An excellent amp for subs. Wouldn't use it for anything else.

here's the crown xti 1002's i was using (class AB). 1 per speaker.

little side story about these amps -

i went to the local kansas city fall twang fest a few months ago and took one of them with me. i also brought with me a peachtree decco65, vpi traveler turntable (dynavector 10x5 cartridge), luxman le-109 phono preamp, a pair of paradigm 9se mkii speakers, a pair of pioneer SP-BS22-LR speakers, and a pair of monitor audio silver rx-1's. that was just the 'base setup' and, and there were people in/out that had brought in speakers as well. all evening long i received comment after comment about how nice they thought it sounded. funny thing though, everyone thought they was listening to that peachtree integrated amp - and they was, sorta. the peachtree was being used as a preamp and all evening they had been listening to the crown amp.

Any why not?? Slightly older pro amps feature monster transformers and metal die T-03's. They are dirt cheap now as Class D is smaller and lighter. Here is my Crown CT-810.
