I agree with Robisme.
There is probably only about $5.00 worth of scrap metal in that thing.
Could also be someone pissed at the seller and getting back at him for something.
 
A tech I know found one on the side of the road, laying in a pile of dirty snow, in downtown Cleveland. He didnt bother to stop, thinking, no, it couldnt be... It kept bothering him, so on the way back, just to make sure, he stopped. There, in the snowbank, partially wrapped in a black plastic trash bag, was an MC275. The cage and output tubes were crushed, but the amp itself was still intact. It must have fallen off of a garbage truck. He took it back to the shop, cleaned it up, replaced the output tubes, and low and behold, the damn thing worked.
 
I have been accused of being pretty dense, and often times this is pretty accurate, but I don't get what the fuss is about at all:

1) The guys puts an ad in saying he has nothing to sell - that's the way I read it. That in itself doesn't make sense, IMHO.

2) If 1) is accurate, what are you guys getting your knickers in such a collective twist about?

It looks to me like all he is trying to achieve is 2). And it looks like he has been pretty successful.

he's just some tool looking to get you guys all wound up. obviously anyone who knows what GEC KT88s are knows not to trash a mcintosh MC275. stop being so gullible.

you guys should email him and ask him why he's so lonely and starved for attention that he wastes his time trying to piss off people on craigslist, then ask him how it feels to be middle aged and still living in his parent's basement ;-)

Maybe the guy posted the original ad and was inundated with replies or "stalked" by someone strange or obnoxious trying to get the Mac? To put an end to people pestering him, he thought he'd post this story, as anything less than this kind of "total destruction" story would still have someone wanting it? Of course, then he'd still be an idiot for not realizing he'd start getting death threats...

Nah, I think it's probably just a wind-up. [At least it is easier to stomach that way!]
