CS-07 Omnidirectional Speakers

Hello,

Recently picked up a pair of CS-07 speakers on the cheap on fb marketplace.

These things are wild. They look like bongo drums. A faux marble top, wooden lattice work and a dark yellow grill.

The rule of thumb is that speakers that look like furniture are normally a pass - but not in this case. These things sing. The bass is a bit lacking, but the highs and mids are crystal clear. Bought them with the intention of selling them, but I just might find a home for them somewhere.

Anyone else have any experience with them?

I’ve got a pair of the CS-05’s, and they are crap, even after recapping them, still crap. Look cool, sound like crap. Did I mention they sound like crap?!?

You have a beautiful home Mr. Peterson! Be glad you got the 07’s (which I have no experience with)...

Well it is possible that the CS-07's are not much better and I am just biased! I bought them as a throw-in, was really after the Sansui receiver, so I did not have very high expectations. That, and, most speakers that look like furniture are not very well thought of. When I put them on, I was surprised by the quality. Guitar strings and cymbals were very clear. Now when compared to my IMF TLS80's they seem thin, but that is certainly not a fair fight.

I received mine as a throw in too (and then found out why). I’ve pretty much used mine as visual speaker stands. They do look nice as speaker stands though, and the price was right. I was so disappointed with them, almost took them back apart the harvest the just replaced poly capacitor, but it was too much work! I think that the 07’s are a more complex speaker than the 05’s. Truly hope that you enjoy them!

Pioneer’s walnut cabinetry in the 70’s CS line was beautiful, it’s just too bad their acoustics didn’t match as well with their cabinetry skills! That came later with the HPM line...

You know, I think they would really excel in a retail environment, where low ambient music needs to be thrown around the room. For my purposes (a narrow indoor porch), I think something directional would make more sense, so I have listed them. Enjoying the novelty while I have them though.

They are definitely unique little beasts. A good conversation starter at a boring as hell cocktail party! Hope you get a windfall for them. They are exceedingly rare and deserve and exorbitant amount of money for their fair trade!
