CS-77 curb find

On the way to work this morning I spotted the distinct lattice grill of some classics. I knew they had to be either Pioneer or Realistic. I had to go around the block cause I had passed them. Sure enough, a pair of Pioneer CS-77s out with the trash. Glad I beat the truck or another set would be history.

Pics and a quick testing will come later tonight. They don't look too bad. Some cleanup, maybe a little sanding and re-oil the cabs and they will be nice. Grills looked intact as well. I hope all the drivers are OK. Right now I'm happy just to have found them.

After testing these I think I know why they tossed them. One tweeter is out. I didn't have time to dig in to test or diag any more than that. If I had to guess I would say it is an open voice coil, but will make sure before trying to replace it. After a quick clean up and a coat of Scotts Liquid Gold they look really good for a curb find.

Nice save! Hope the tweeter works out and you get them singing again. Would a recap bring that tweeter back to life? That's often the case with KLH's.

Thanks. I will dig into these soon and find out why that tweeter is out. This is my second pair of CS-77s. I got a couple of matching small Pioneer amps, a tuner and cassette deck that hooked to my Sansui Quad Decoder would make a nice quad system to play with. ;)
