I'm lucky enough to have got hold of two of these recently in decent condition. The trouble is, the electronic tape counter didn't work on either.
One of them was cracked traces to two pins of the tape counter control board but the other.... looks to be a dead IR sensor.
The schematic says its a Toshiba TLP507. This is obsolete and I could use some help trying to work out a good sub. I can only find a datasheet for the TLP507A and so 'm not sure what the A stands for.
What confused me was according to the datasheet, the LED is 1V, but has a 24V supply in the deck. I thought that it cold be okay in the tape circuit. It might drop one volt and then be passed on... but I'm not sure I understand the circuit fully. 24V passes through the LED and enters on Pin 1 of the tape indicator assembly.
I swapped the tape counter circuits on the decks and the fault stays with the faulty deck so I think it is the IR sensor.
So in short, I need help subbing the IR sensor if possible and just make sure I'm not barking up the wrong tree here.
