Curious about 500c before and after value

I recently scored a Fisher 500c and I'm contemplating a recap and rebuild of the power supply.

I have slowly brought it up on a variac and she works just fine so far.

What is it's worth in current condition, and after the work I'm thinking of doing?

What would the cost of the rebuild be, both DIY (parts only) and sending it out?

Note that I do not have a cabinet for it.

Just curious, is all.

I'm not here to discuss opinions of their work (it varies), but this gives you an idea what some folks will pay.

There is a serious market for these units in great shape.

Man, I want one of those. I'd do the repairs myself, though. The easiest way I've found to work up a DIY rebuild cost is to simply make a capacitor list, decide on what caps you want to use, and add it up. It's worth checking the resistors and the like, too, so you can order them all at once.

I have no clue on what your cost might be, but I'd for sure give it a fighting chance before letting it go. We played my single driver TL's on a Fisher tubie receiver of Clay's (can't remember model) at the Chicago shindig and it was pretty sweet. I don't know what the dollar value on "sweet" is but with a cap job and a Gary-fied cab that could be a centerpiece for a very nice system.

My tech has a fully restored 800c for, I think, about $800. I purchased my fully restored x202b from him for $600 and feel I got a great deal (listen to it almost everyday). While not 500c's, those are a few examples that I know of. Those are brick and mortar store prices, not ebay.

Oh...and Clay's 1800 did sound fantastic. I'm very jealous of that one.

And I am in no way ashamed. However I don't know that I am selling it, at this point I want to know what I have - both sonically and ... $$$$ically.

Look at my sig - It seems to me that the MC225 is currently my "untouchable", even though right now its at Mr DeWick's spa for a power supply rebuild. Seems the sudden 8 hours a day for 60 days of use tired the little fella out. My F5 is a stunning little amp, it continues to amaze me with its musicality. So the Yammie B-2 is my backup. That's a tough crowd to compete with. And Nate has a little project going for me too - I'm really excited about this one.

I'm going to try it with my Cornwalls and my ejFonkens (Fostex FE127e) while I rebuild the Ampex amps. It will get an audition.

Yeah, it's easy for me to say when I'm 700 miles away. I volunteer his services all the time.

I'm a professional speaker designer. In the realm of harrassment I'm just a dabbler and look to pro's like Tentoze for inspiration. Maybe Newman will mentor me. He has a knack for getting people all bent out of shape. :thmbsp:
