Curious experience with Pro-ject speedbox II and Thorens TD-147

I have my TD-147 up and running with the Speedbox II, and it sounds great, but there are a few anomalies:

-first and foremost, it only runs at 33.3 with the speedbox set at 45 rpm. with the speedbox set at 33 the Thorens runs slow. can anyone explain this?

-secondly, the output connector on the speedbox was the wrong size for the Thorens, and had to be changed. correct OD, wrong ID, so not a true "plug-n-play upgrade, in this case at least..

With the Speedbox II connected to my Pro-Ject Perspective I have to have the 45rpm motor and pulley, I can't use the 33rpm one.

What pulley do you have the Thorens with?
 
interesting, thanks. i'm using the 33 rpm pulley with the Thorens. So, the logical inference is the speedbox II needs to be always set at 45 to use the stock Thorens 33 rpm pulley, and perhaps it will run at 33 rpm with the speedbox set at 33 while using the 45 rpm Thorens pulley. will experiment when i have some time. kinda wacky, but the improvement in sound is undeniable. i can live with wacky, my ex-wife is a testament to that...

I have also used a Speedbox II with a thorens TD166mkII it has the same motor as TD147.So why you must use the 45 rpm pulley is because the 60Hz Speedbox II uses 44.32Hz@33 1/3rpm and 60Hz@45 rpm to power the motor. The lower frequency means lower motor speed 44.32Hz/8x60=332.4 motor speed@33 1/3 rpm with speedbox.Stock is 60Hz/8x60=450.Slower motor speed less motor noise and vibration.And this is a photo of the pulley set-up I found works best the top is the 60Hz/45 rpm pulley the bottom is a 50Hz/45 rpm pulley both mounted upside down and motor mounted lower by using 2 3mm washers on the 2 back motor mounts.It all works very good:thmbsp:

acknowledged, and appreciated. now happily using the 45 rpm portion of the pulley. very cool little gadget.
