Current Analog Room Setup 45 SET with Arcturus Blue Glass 37-A Tubes

When I got this amp it came with a 5 pin to octal adapter so a # 76 tube could be used in place of 6J5, I thought at the time that I wish I had some blue Arcturus 76 tubes, those are very hard to find. I have a collection of blue tubes and I remembered that there was a 76 like tube the 37-A which was used in cars. These are smaller bulbs then most #76 tubes. They do work fine, now only if I had good set of blue 45 tubes

Don't forget that the 6P5G is a 76 tube with an octal base. Each of the 27 family variants, e.g. 37, 56, 76, 6P5G is slightly different with respect to plate resistance, transconductance and Mu, so it is fun to try the different variants to see which work best in your equipment. With an octal socket, you can also use the 6C5G and 6L5G. All these tubes are very linear and clean sounding as Eric Barbour discovered for Vacuum Tube Valley magazine.

Thanks everyone. I have a large collection of tubes to use with this amp, I have tried most of those that were listed. Really hard to say which sounds better, builder told me 6J5 was the best.

I have a diy line stage that uses either 37 or 76 tubes. Very sweet sounding.

Those tubes look cool, but these sound better to me. Left over NOS WW-2 surplus 6J5-GT metal base TG I have picture of my only spare.

Looking myself for an 45 amp. Interstage coupling w/top grade iron would be nice. I’ve got some 7N7 that with adapters would love to try.
Not really satisfied with the 845 or EL34 Simply Italy.
