Hello,

I think you probably heard this question several times before but I am concerned with the comparison of specific models. I would like to get opinions on which might be best.


1- Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 75th Anniversary
2- Polk Audio Monitor 50 2-Way Floorstanding Speaker
3- Paradigm Atom Monitor (v.5)
4- EPOS ELS-3

I know lot of this is relative and subjective but here are some things that might help.

I will be using them for a smaller room in an apartment so not that much space to fill.

I will be using it with vinyl mostly.

I do no have a sub and speakers which might nor require a sub is a bonus.

I listen to all kinds of music but if there is one kind that I would have to choose it would be jazz so jazz friendly speakers a plus.

Finally if there is anything out there that is better than the above or comparable please pitch in.

hhhmmm.. taste wise for me.. out of your list.. polk..

I'd also check out some Advent, (personal pref) KLH and a few smaller Klipsch, older...

So little time, so many speakers... personal taste my man..
 
I have a pair of the v.5 Atoms. They sound really nice once they are broken in (the bass is a little lacking at first). I have used them with both vintage (Marantz 2235b) and modern (Onkyo TX-8222) receivers with good results. I haven't heard any of the other speakers though, so I can't compare.

Probably not the answer you want, but given the field that you've narrowed it down to, you are just going to have to go listen and compare yourself. And take some of your music with you!

Also, have the salesperson play the speakers with good quality 2-channel equipment if possible. If they only have some kind of big, modern, bells-n-whistles receiver with a gazillion different surround effects to choose from, get them to turn all that stuff off!!!

In other words, the difference between the speakers you've mentioned will be almost too close to call without a decent audition.
 
Can we then say that they are all close enough and quality intro-speakers? Should I just buy the cheapest of the above?

I do plan to possibly audition for sure but wanted to get general opinions first.

I haven't heard any of those speakers, but I must say for my first speakers, my Infinity Primus' are great. For the money they just sound great, although they could be a little smaller. If money is an object for you, I would try to audition a pair of them.
 
Anyone has the Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 75th anniversary? I want to try them out but would like some real world reviews. Thanks!

If your on a budget maybe you should expand your horizons. There's a lot of great speakers to be found at alternative sources, such as pawn shops. Just picked up a pair of HPM 40's today, $50.00, and a little elbow grease. They sound great, and and look pretty good, too.
 
Easily the Wharfedale if you can find them. An excellent speaker and in another league in my opinion from the others on the list. Both the Atom v5 and the Epos are excellent speakers but just not up to the same performance level as the Wharfedale. The later Polk Monitor series is a budget speaker in both name and performance and can't IMO be compared to any of these other stellar performers....also look at offerings from PSB.
