Current pricing on SX-1980?

I know that some examples of the SX-1980 --especially those on "the Bay" with original packaging, etc...-- have gone for three grand or more. I know most of them --esp. those in more typical condition-- have gone for less. I haven't really been following the price levels for some time, though, so I'm not sure what they are "worth" now.

Have the prices on these continued to climb, or have the higher price levels increased the supply enough and/or the economy weakened enough to have brought the prices back down a bit?

What should the current "market value" or price be on an all-original one (never molested/hacked, but also no doubt filled with aging caps) with all functions, lights and meters still working and decent cosmetics, perhaps just a few small scratches here or there? No box, no original documentation. Not sure whether it's the earlier version or the later one (with or without the extra sensor controls in the back), so maybe two prices would be in order(?).

Any up-to-date info on prices for these beasts would be most welcome. Thanks in advance!

Through my browsing, I have seen ones that have been refurbished bring upwards of $3K, with or without box. And they'll only bring that much if there is physical proof of it's refurbishment, and the unit is impeccably clean, inside and out. OTOH, I have seen original untouched units bring the same amount, when they are one owner units with low hours, and original box, with all original papers that document it's history. When the unit is fully documented from it's birth, and very clean, that is what seems to bring the most $$$.

I have a lead on one locally (it would be my second one ), and want a current price indication before I start negotiating. I think I'll be on safe ground, though; the local market price is probably about half or two-thirds of the lower end of your figure. At least, that's about what I expect him to ask for it. I paid less than that for mine, because it "had issues" --but I knew from threads here on AK what the remedies for those "issues" were, so I didn't hesitate to get it. I hate paying even half that range, but the only other one I've seen (that I can remember) here is my own; they're pretty rare in these parts, and I like them. Actually, I mostly want it because the big knob on mine is all scratched up (someone must have worn a ring or something like that!), and I want to swap knobs (and any other parts that will improve mine). I like my things to be as nearly perfect as I can get them.

If I get this one, there'll be some hard thinking about what to do with it, moving forward. Another AKer saw mine and didn't buy it, just before I saw it and bought it. He later regretted not buying it, so I told him I'd keep my eyes open for another one for him. I feel I should give him first crack at this one (if I don't keep it ), but whether he'll buy it or not may depend on the price; he wants one at the price I paid for mine, and I think this one might be significantly higher. Time will tell.

Funny, I recently passed up on (another) G-22000 in good condition, but this beast I think I'll be getting. Don't even know exactly why; some gear "beckons" more strongly than other gear...
