Curtis Mathes console help

If this isnt the right forum, please let me know!!

I found a seller with a Curtis Mathes console for sale for $20. I know this is a reputable name but not much beyond that. Basically what I want to know is if this console is tube and worth driving an hour each way and hauling it i and out of my van. My plans would be to take the amp out and use it while i throw the rest away.

These are all pictures the seller sent me. Its rear panel seems to have been removed, I assume the model number was on that piece.

Orthophonic is right. It is a solid state unit and everybody thinks different but I wouldn't want it for free even if it were close. If you want solid state amp I think you'd be better off just buying a receiver.

Thanks for the info. Figured it was solid state but didnt want to miss that deal if it were tube.

I'm going to guess since you put this in the tube forum that you are looking for a tube console. Magnavox would be a very good console to start with not so much that they are better than everything else but because there is so much information on AK about them. A lot of them are very nice in stock form and can have mods done to make them sound so much better and those mods can be found right here on AK. If you do wind up with another brand (which usually isn't a bad thing either) there are plenty of helpful people here to guide you through anything you want to do with it.

Good luck with your search.
