"custom" Yamaha NS-1000M??

Eh. Call me a negative nancy if you must, but here's my two cents (actually more like 4 or 5 cents):

He should have left the original woofers. Now it's a speaker with non-original drivers and personally I think it looks out of place because the other two drivers still have grills.

His veneer job, although beautiful, probably won't actually enhance the selling price as much as he would like. Also, he mentions "minor signs of wear" but then doesn't provide any real detail shots of the veneer.

All that work and he didn't replace the grill cloth which has "various minor holes"? To me that shows a lack of attention to detail.

The crossover shot doesn't do anything for me. Frankly all those big motor run caps in parallel look kinda hack (at least to me) and calling them "high quality" in an audio application is a bit of a stretch. And yeah, he should have replaced the binding posts. Again, attention to detail.

Yes, he clearly spent alot of time on these speakers. No, I wouldn't pay a premium over a clean pair of original NS-1000M.
 
The link he provides to the vintage knob page does show two NS-1000's with no grilles on the woofer and a similar arrangement for the caps on the crossover, so I don't think he dicked it up as bad as you're thinking.
I noticed some other guy on ebay has NS-1000 cloth grilles for $220+ each. That kinda ticks me off. It appears from his listings his "hobby" is tearing apart vintage speakers and overpricing the individual parts.
And getting outrageous prices for Mosrite guitars. Oh well, capitalism. He can ask what he likes I guess, I don't have to buy.

Not according to his Q & A.

He's had inquiries from other potential non USA buyers who would have them picked up from his residence and he refuses to deal with them.

yeah - I saw that too. I THINK that was just that he didn't want "shippers" coming to pick it up to avoid the whole paypal dispute problem where the buyer says he never got them, gets his money back and seller can't prove they were received. I do have a verified address in the USA, and if we show up with cash I'm sure that would do the trick.

But like I said... not in the budget for me this time. I'd prefer to find a nice ebony pair anyway once it is in the budget - better match to the 3030.
