Spotted a posting on FB Marketplace - FREE HR-895 receiver ... he cldn't get the power amp to work, so giving away .. picked it up yesterday .. owner said no good -- couldn't get it to work at all ...would not accept $$ (!) but it has pre-out/main-in jumpers...thinking to myself - cldn't be this easy ..
Disconnected emotiva PT-100 preamp from the Jolida. Connected Carver to tube amp and to subwoofer ..-- works (!!), but the sound from Tidal stream is clearly better - high freqs are more present, more musical ..
besides preamps, the big change I am supposing wld be the DAC - the Emotiva uses the AD1955a DAC...there is no dac built into the Carver, of course, so I used the Squeezebox's built in Wolfson 24-bit DAC...Amazed there is that much of a noticeable difference ..
I was not expecting this, but will embrace the miracle ... I see the Carver retailed for over $1,000 in the 90's
Looking to buy outboard DAC with coaxial input for the Carver - budget = $200 .. is there a good guide ??
