DAC upgrades from Musical Fidelity VDAC2?

Hi all
I have a MF VDAC2.
Only thing that is connected to it is a PC with either youtube or lossy files. Bluetooth would be nice.
Is 400$ worth upgrading?

I can find second hand things like Topping E70 Velvet, Vintage Parasound 500/700 DAC, Musical Fidelity V90 (I guess this isn't worth the upgrade).
Or maybe Wiim to replace the DAC? I am not using apps like spotify but only youtube.

at the pricepoint you're looking at, perhaps consider a Schiit Mimir F. One reviewer called it the best dac under $1200. It costs under $400. That and a Wiim Pro would be pretty sweet.
 
I second the Schiit Mimir. A very revealing DAC, with excellent low level detail and dynamics. Forward in the mids when new, but that does settle down with some extended playing time. A Forkbeard MIMIR offers the volume, parametric EQ, and loudness options too, in order to tweak the sound.
 
I have owned the Musical Fidelity Vdac 90 and I upgraded to a SMSL d300. The d300 has better clarity and is much more musical than the Vdac 90. The d300 uses the same Rohm dac chip as the much more expensive Luxman cd players and dac.
 
I have had a V-DAC, but it has been a while since I used it. I use the Topping D10s in a couple of systems and I think it sounds real good. I have better, but they are about twenty times more expensive.

I have had a Mimir since it was released and is is a good value and worth consideration
I would strongly recommend the iFi Zen DAC V3 for around $230 as I think it would be a good fit for your stated use case.
 
OP says his input files are less than CD quality. I don't understand the advice to purchase a $400 DAC. I'm not sure an external DAC would be an improvement.
I think if OP wants to improve the sound quality he needs to upgrade his input files to at least CD resolution. Then worry about a DAC. I'm thinking headphone jack output would be sufficient.

OP what music software are you using to play the files?
