Dahlquist DQ-10 5” Driver Recone/Refoam Question

Hello there fellow AK’ers

I recently acquired a pair of DQ-10’s that needed the woofers refoamed, which I subsequently completed with good results.

Upon closer inspection I noticed that the 5” drivers with rubber surrounds were also beginning to deteriorate so i removed the rubber surround but I wasn’t able to remove the reat of the rubber surround that remained on the cone.

So my question is, is it alright to simply adhere the new rubber surrounds on top of the old rubber surround that remains on the cone or should I just recone?

Use a tiny bit of solvent on the glue

Those mids aren't exactly uncommon (Philips AD5060 if I'm not mistaken). Did Dahlquist make any mods to them? If not, you should be able to find replacements fairly easily, if you're unable to re-edge them.

The Philips AD5060 mid I know was all paper cone, not rubber or foam.

The Philips AD5060 (The AD5061 had a larger voice coil) actually came in three different configurations: 1.) The "M" "extended range" version with whizzer cone and treated cloth surround (Rectilinear 3 midrange), 2.) The "SQ" "Midrange Only" version with no whizzer cone and a treated cloth surround (Infinity QB midrange), and 3.) and the least common version The "W" "woofer" version as used in the DQ-10 with the rubber surround which can indeed deteriorate over time. Any replacement used AD5060W units you may find on FleaBay will likely have rubber surrounds as old as yours but some will be in better condition depending on the temperature range and humidity of where they've been kept through the years.

I hope you are successful in being able to mount new rubber surrounds on your drivers to maintain the stock performance parameters.
