Dahlquist DQ 10s and mirror imaging - worth it

I have a chance to buy a pair of Dahlquist DQ 10s but the pair is not an immage mirrored pair as they are an earlier model of DQ 10s produced before the mirror imaging option was available.

My question is whether there is a major difference between mirror image and non-mirror image pairs of DQ 10s and whether I should buy a non-mirror imaged pair (at a reasonable price, by the way) or whether it is better to wait for a mirror imaged pair to come my way.

I think it makes a difference. How handy are you?

Mine were not mirror Imaged when I bought them.
I carefully measured all the driver positions on the upper panel
and did the mirror image change to the right DQ-10 myself.

Its not hard work, just critical to get the dimensions correct and make sure the offsets match.

The only thing at all difficult is that the wires need to be lengthened when you swap the upper panels.

I have taken a pair and performed a MI on them with little difficulty- as was stated, just plot & measure and you can gey it done easy enough!. YES it does make an imaging differance!

That image was with the beat-up masonite board. I bought a small chunk of masonite
at Home Depot and made a replacement piece. The board does lean back very slightly to time-align all the diaphrams.

You know, there are a lot of folks here who did own or currently own a pair of DQ-10s -
you could do well doing a site search for DQ-10 and reading some of the threads that pop up.

I had my pair (with a factory subwoofer!) for a couple years and sold them early this year
I moved on to DQM Time-Frames, just sold most of them off and am now playing with Vandersteens.

Man, every time I see under the hood of some DQ10s I marvel at how ghetto and homebrewed they look. (Not that that means they sound bad.) Has anyone ever built better driver mounts up top? Seems like one big sheet of MDF with cutouts would look way better and have lower resonance to boot.

You will get better results by replacing the caps. The difference with mirror imaging will be found in smaller rooms.
I have had several pair since they were introduced..........
