Dahlquist DQ-20 in LA CL

Little spendy but a rare opportunity to have some really fine speakers.
The ad is spot on about the performance.
They are awesome.
Takes at least a 50wpc amp to even get them to start singing well.

I have never heard of the 20's - I have a set of the 10's and really like them, can't imagine what the 20's must sound like. Thanks

Dahlquist DQ-20

I have 10's and 20i's. The 20i is the biampable version of the 20. It is more effecient and has better bass than the 10s and is probably flatter too. Very nice speaker. For 550 they should be minty IMHO. If the woofers have been refoamed, make sure they play deep, loud bass without scraping or knocking.

well at least all you need to power them is "a good pre amp". According to the seller. should save you some money on not having to buy an amp to go with a pre amp. LOL

Those are keepers, I would not sell my 20i set for that price, but keep looking and jump when 350-400 presents itself. It will.

You need the correct surrounds--thin, very flexible, and 17mm radius, or you lose the bottom octave. Thanks GordonW!

On some music/rooms/amps the 10's sound better. Apples/oranges. You can probably get away with not recapping 20's right away...but listen very closely to make sure the tweeters are working.

50 wpc? Uh, not unless it's a Pure Class A Pass Labs or tube amp. For SS try 160-200 at least (unless you have a nice sub). Unless you like clipping and replacing tweeters.

I had a pair of DQ-32's, which IIRC was the last Dalhquist model made. Very similar to the DQ-20. The 32 was an awesome sounding speaker which I regret selling to this day.

What year were yours made? DQ-3x were ported. That's a huge change from the 1988-1990 20's.

I think 1994. BTW, the DQ-32 sounded superb with the Concept 16.5 receiver. The buyer took them both, it was an easy (and much regretted) sale.

I wouldn't crank on them with a 50wpc, but a 50wpc will "start" to get them to sound good. Anything less and you won't get to hear them. 125wpc of Marantz makes them sing well.

I emailed the seller and I've yet to hear back.

I asked what type of amp they had to audition with and if they had a TT.

I think I scared him.
