Dahlquist DQ-20 Reconing Questions

One voice coil has failed on my DQ-20s so I need to repair it, obviously.

Each of the two woofers measure 4.8 and 5.1 ohms so I'm guessing the 6 ohm OLA redone kit from Simply Speakers is the one to get but should I do both so they match? Are these my best option?

Here's the more important question I have been under impressed with the bass on these. Let me explain. This particular pair of DQ-20s have always sounded a little bright, almost like the woofers were a bit attenuated. I figure the vc in one had fallen apart and affected the one woofer's performance and I suspect the other may have similar performance effecting issues and I'm hoping a rebuild solves this issue.

I'm curious to know how to determine the proper VC depth in the spider. The current depth on the one functioning woofer I believe to be too deep as a 30hz tone at relatively high volume makes the VC bottom out in the magnet.

Thoughts?

Did you ever find what you were looking for? I am in the same boat now 10 years later and looking to rebuild a pair of DQ20s
 
Regnar will rebuild the woofer for a nice chunk of dollar bills but you get back a nice driver ready to perform as it should. They are the follow on of the old Dahlquist company.

Millersound near Phila, PA can rebuild the driver, too. Might be less money, would be similar quality.

Or do you just need to replace the rotted surround between the cone and the basket (masonite)? This is easy and done at home by many here. You need to correct surrounds to do this right.

post a pic and folks can make some recommendations.
 
The Large Advent recone kit will work for the DQ10 and DW20, with one change- instead of a screen (open weave fabric) dust cap, like the Advent uses- you will need a felt dust cap. There's a 2.75" felt dust cap that is pretty common to speaker reconers- that would be just fine, and virtually identical to the original, in fact.
