Daily drinker whiskey

Hey everyone! I’m in need of a new, good “daily drinker” whiskey. I generally prefer darker, peaty Scotch, but my favorites from that category are a little spendy.

I’m open to just about any suggestions, but am wary of the sweeter brown spirits. (Southern Comfort and I are NOT friends.)

Any suggestions for a good, not-too-expensive daily whiskey drinker? Let me hear it!!

Evan Williams is any of their types here. Great value. Not exactly smooth, though. My go-to is the 100 proof BIB white label. Tasty, but it is a little harsh. Smoother, Jim Beam.

Closest I have to a "Daily Drinker" whiskey is Gentleman Jack.
That's what I typically use to make my Whiskey Sours.

What's wrong with the one you've been drinking?

The parent distillery of Evan Williams is Heaven Hill and they at least here in MD sell their own branded bourbon for a shockingly low price. Seems roughly equivalent to me to the Evan Williams green label, and it's so cheap it's like they're trying to encourage alcoholism.

Well of course I read that.
But nonetheless, it doesn't explain why he needs a NEW one.
What's wrong with the old one?
Did he just lose his 401K and can't afford 20 Y/O anymore?
Did he just become allergic to single malt/single barrel?
Did he develop an allergy to charred oak?

Did he just find out that buying $800 bottles of booze is driving him into the poorhouse?

We need more to go on, otherwise, there's always Heaven's Hill.
Now that's some fine nectar there!

I just took him at his word, to costly to drink the Scotch he likes as an everyday and is looking for “cheaper” options :dunno:. I wasn’t trying to nuke it.

I don't drink have but...
One of my really good friends who is an expert with whiskeys and is well connected with that industry says this is what it is considered one of the best for this price range...

I prefer scotch as well, but my budget lately doesn’t allow for the scotch I’ll drink.
So I’ve been on a Canadian whiskey kick.
Pendleton is surprisingly smooth.
Costco brand Canadian whiskey is significantly cheaper and just about as smooth.
If you’re looking at Irish whiskey, Redbreast single pot still 12 year is one of my favorites, but at that point you’re almost at semi-decent scotch prices.
American whiskeys... I haven’t found one I like.

Hahahahaha ha

Now I can’t decide whether to answer the speculation as to why I need a “new” one, or just let it play out and get all weird.

In truth, I’ve never really had a daily drinker, or a favorite. Every year I buy myself a really nice bottle of scotch but then hesitate to drink a little at times because it was...expensive.

If that’s the case, then you’re spending too much per bottle, imho.
Things should be bought to enjoy, to invest, or for others.
If you’re looking for a good, affordable scotch that you won’t feel bad about opening and drinking, I suggest Macallen double cask 12 year. It’s quite good, while cheap enough that you shouldn’t hesitate to open it up and have a drink.
There are some significantly more expensive options that I can suggest, but those are far from affordable “daily drinkers”.

Awesome, thank you everyone for the suggestions!!

Except no Ancient Age. (I assume that's what you meant by A.A.) I once lost a bet involving that stuff and, like SoCo, we don't get along anymore. (Don't judge, I was very young.)

My situation is complicated even more by the fact that I live in Utah, which is not exactly known for its liberal alcohol laws. The only place one can buy anything beyond beer in Utah is the state-run liquor store system. They do a decent job given the restrictions they're under (I worked at one for a time), but selection isn't exactly their strong suit. Nor is pricing. (While I am an attorney, I'm a gov't attorney. So I can afford whiskey, but not 21-year-old stuff on the daily.)

Oh, and no Costco booze in Utah either.

Ah, yes, Forty Creek! I've actually been to that distillery - got some friends who live in that area now. For some reason I've always overlooked them at the store, but maybe I'll give 'em another try.

Don't believe I've ever seen Heaven Hill. Probably not carried in Utah.
