The 2011 Dakar rally raid started today. Lots of people attended the official start today in Buenos Aires:

I love this event, and have for many years.I get daily, hour long, next day update/highlight shows, which is much better than nothing i suppose. South America seems to embrace the event, and it has provided a great course.

As an aside, I recently watched the FIA GT racing that was held at the Potrero De Los Funes racing curcuit, and was greatly impressed with the event and the track. These two events really have put Argentina back on the international motor racing map. Great seeing more world class motor racing of all kinds in this hemisphere, even if not on my home continent.

Very cool Guiller, "Dakar" in the land of the steak (and soy bean), hope you're able to add more of these wonderful pics.
In the past weeks one of the Dutch tv channels has been broadcasting a lot of old Dakar footage, magnificent scenery and motorsport action.

I very much enjoy this event and have been following it on TV since 1987.

I ride an adventure bike myself.

Not to be able to compete in rallies like this but to be able to follow some tracks similar to those in the Dakar rally.

When going on vacation, my wife and I enjoy getting places almost nobody else can get to on wheels.

Be aware that Dakar is on FaceBook.
