Damaged Dome Mids

I listened to a pair of RTR 300D's, with the little soft dome mids and tweeters. They are in really nice shape except both the dome mids have been fairly severely deformed. What do you think is the affect on sound quality? The owner was running them on a crappy little amp and I could tell they would open up if driven better, but I couldn't really tell if the sound was compromised. Can they be restored or no?

Don't really know that specific model, but i'm really intimate with pushed in dustcaps (kids, LOL).

Try some "blue" painters tape to pull the dustcap out first. Just make sure you hold the cone while pulling on the tape gently. If they're paper, I've had success by lightly moistening them, then using a vaccum to re-shape the dome. Either way, be very carfull not to kill the speaker.

Other than that, little or no sonic difference.

Yeah, I know, it looks like $hit, but with the grills on, nobody will ever know but you.

Good Luck.
