Dating AR2ax's Speakers

I have come across a little problem. In testing out the speakers after re-installing the pots... I noticed there was a little rattle sound coming from one of the speakers. My initial assumption was that it was a blow woofer... but, after a closer examination I noticed the cardboard surround that the cloth surround is glued to has come loose on one side from the aluminum frame. My question is... what is a good adhesive to glue it back? Epoxy comes to mind, but wanted to check with you guys.

Also - just curious... when listening to the speakers, is it best to have the HI and MID set to their maximum setting, and adjust the frequency using the tone controls on your preamp?
 
I had same thing happen with mine. I used glue that came with separate surround kit. Heard Alene's works well. Wait for others to chime in.

As for pots - I usually have my mids turned down about 1/4 turn. Tweeter near full to full on. Try to get them balanced tone wise using mono switch and going back and forth.

If that surround was loose from basket you were definitely leaking air and bass should improve once you repair :yes:
 
I did a little "Google-ing" and there are many DIY speaker guys that have used all sorts of glues - but, the one that I will probably end up using is the one you noted (like many others) and that's - Aleene's Original Tacky Glue.
