Has there EVER been a decent copy of this recording? I have an original RCA LP and while the music is great the recording sounds muffled and like an old pre-recorded cassette. Pretty bad!

I really like Bowie at the Beeb. I don't recall the recording being muffled but it is live version not a studio version.

Mine is the same. It's a German import and it sounds terrible.

I prefer Nirvana's unplugged version.

mine sounds great, crisp highs and that kickin' bowie bass sound. I'll check the label this weekend but it is RCA orange, US issue

I have the original RCA Orange label. It sounds like it was recorded under a blanket. It's a shame because the music is GREAT!

The original Mercury pressing sounds pretty darn good. Much better than later re-releases. Beware of bootlegs!

I had a bogus one about 25 years ago at least I think it was bogus cause I would not know how to tell the difference. I bought it as a cut out at a record store for about 3.00. I threw it away after the 1st listening. It was very poor vinyl. Even though it was brand new it sounded like I was playing a bowl of Rice Krispies with all the noise I was hearing from the record. Truly awful!!

The difference in colors of a Mercury bootleg versus original can be tough, but the machine stamped versus handwritten stamper numbers in the dead wax make it pretty easy. Basically the difference is the original looks like the numbers came off a typewriter, the other is obviously hand-scratched. I have an original and I think it sounds pretty good!
