I wouldn't say they were blues rock... not like so many other groups around at the time like Fleetwood Mac, Cream, Led Zep, etc. True, the name comes from blues musicians, but I don't feel like that has any real connection to the music they made. They were on the more surreal tip and I figure that the name was just meant to be any kind of weird, enigmatic kind of thing, not so much a tribute to the musicians it was named after. If anything, a little bit of blues vibe became part of the fabric of their music much later, some albums into when Gilmour replaced Barret, but at the point when they started the band with Barrett and came up with the name, it didn't seem like there was much blues at all in the music...

Darned good jam, and I don't recall ever having seen FZ perform live w/ a Telecaster, much less what appears to be a walnut-finish refin or (could it be?) ones of the scarce but wholly-original factory Rosewood Teles.
