Just got mine yesterday...doesnt look like its ever been serviced and it probably hasn't been used in 20 years...only problems are a missing knob, a slipping fastwind belt, and a lot of dust...sounds and plays better than I imagined it would

For being only a 2-head system the 9191 has some pretty good specs and sounds real nice. Rich has one of my CT-F1000's for a little restoration work. I look forward to picking it up when he's done.
The thrifts around here have almost endless supply of pre-recorded tapes and you can also score some new Maxell and TDK tapes from time to time as I have. Even picked a few Metal tapes recently. Nobody seems to buy the cassette tapes (thanks to CD's and MP3's) which is good for me as I can usually find some good ones with no problem.

I like the CT-F1000's beefy deck with pitch control like the RT-707.

I've never been a fan of cassettes, but I just received a 9191 on a deal for some equipment that an elderly man was selling. Looking at the solid quality of this unit, it was enough to get me interested in the format. These are really beautiful and well made!

Hi, Notice the weight difference between todays decks and the decks from the past! They were made like tanks and can be repaired not tossed.:yes:

My 9191 experience
I've hundreds of tapes that have been waiting patiently to get digitized. Mostly mixes from the eighties and nineties pulled from KUNM FM in Albuquerque.
Priceless, of course.
Poking around our local thrift I ran into this big beefy wooden-cased cassette deck. Hmmm, looks like this was a quality machine in it's day. So, for twenty bucks what did I have to lose?
Googled 9191 and was amazed to see it was vintage 1975! $450 new.
The deck is really clean - looks great, lights all work. FF and Rew worked fine but it would stop playing after a few minutes, or seconds. Dang, but not surprising for a 33 year old machine.
More googling and I was equally amazed to find that parts are available.
And I discovered this site. Yea! all kinds of good info.
Against my better judgment, I ordered a repair kit from wjoe.com, rather than going to the expense of mailing it off to an expert.
Anyway, I just installed the new belts, tires and rubber pulley kit. The kit was packaged nicely and the illustrated instructions were more than I expected. Some glitches were included: the instructions were not entirely accurate and the idler tire was not the correct dimension. Finally, the custom made pulley (15 bucks) would not fit on the motor shaft. Dang. Lucky for me I had the tools to ream the bore.
All in all, not bad considering the 100s of vintage units wjoe supplies parts for.
Upshot: The thing is hooked up to my PC and I'm enjoying music not heard in years!

has anybody else had issues with the wjoe kits? I'm a bit stuck between them and vintage electronics...the illustrated instructions would be nice...but I have heard nothing but good about vintage electronics (the price is better, too)

Hi,
I used the Joe kit on my CT-F700 and it worked fine without a hitch. When it comes to price I always remember" You Get What You Pay For", this has bitten me plenty of times to make me pay that little extra amount.
Vintage Electronics does not come with the tires, that is an extra expense. So they are basically the same price.
The Directions worked great for me.:thmbsp:
