I've currently own a dbx CX-3 preamp and BX-3 amplifier that I've had and used for around 32 years. Both have performed well over the years and other than having the units cleaned and checked by a tech they work great. Thing is I really have the desire to "upgrade" to more current gear in the form of a McIntosh C53 preamp and MA462 2-channel amplifier. I suspect that the newer McIntosh gear would outperform the dbx units I own but am not sure exactly how. Is it a matter of as time goes on the technologies get better with audio gear? What specs would I look at to compare them? Anyone made a leap to more modern/current gear (even other than McIntosh) from the dbx units and noticed a significant difference in performance or sound quality? I know this is a very broad question but I'm about ready to pull the trigger on the McIntosh setup and am beginning to question whether it's an objectively good move. Hopefully this makes sense.
Thanks!
