hi, a buddy wants to trade me some older dcm time frame speakers for my bose 201s is this a fair trade? and are these speakers any good?

As a former owner of 2 pairs of 201's and the current owner of several pair of TF' I'd Make that deal all day long assuming the TF's are in good cosmetic gondition and all drivers are working.

well i went to my buddys house to make the deal and he ripped the cloth off one of them and it looks like hell. idk now.

Hmm, your buddy "ripped" the cloth off one (not "gently removed"), and it looked like hell. I'm sure your buddy's a great guy, but maybe not the best source for well-cared for used gear. Personally, I was never enamored of the DCM product line anyway, finding them to stress sonic attributes, such as imaging, that were low on my priority list, and to have weaknesses in areas that were more important to me, such as dynamics and rhythmic coherence. Despite their low status in most audio forums, I find I actually like Bose bookshelf speakers and now have both 301's and 141's in my apartment. What kinds of improvements over your 201's are you looking for?

What do you mean "looks like hell?" The surrounds should be ok, DCM used rubber surrounds on the Timeframes. Did the foam under the cloth disintegrate? You can vacuum it up and either glue some new thin foam to the speaker baffle or just leave it off. These speakers are much better sounding than anything Bose has ever made.

Go for it. The trade is good for your side of the deal as long as the drivers are all working....

Replacing the grille fabric is an easy task on the Time Frames.

Bose are good for flipping, Time Frames are good for listening.

they are smaller ones, 2 ways, looks like a 6" woofer, and a tweeter mounted below the woofer, i think they are the 200 series? they really sound good. still undecided
