DCM CX-27 UPGRADE DRIVERS?

Hello, I've had a pair of DCM CX-27 speakers since the '90s and recently re-capped the crossovers with Mundorf Supremes. They do sound better but now I'm wondering if replacing the drivers would be of benefit. Can anyone recommend any specific replacements?

Seconded. Cabinets are built to the speaker. Unless you get to the genius math engineer level with a roomful of the equipment needed for testing, anything you can do will probably make it worse.
I have ruined many pairs of speakers with experimentation so I leave well enough alone these days.
 
If you are tired of these, I will take them off your hands. Don't change any drivers, you'll just screw them up. Again, I'll take them, and you can get something new. Don't thank me now.
 
I will join the chorus of those who are saying don't. There is enough of a DCM fan base out in the Audioverse that if there was a driver mod for it you would have probably seen it by now.IMO the magic of most of the original DCM series (TF and CX) is the the sound of them that is produced by somewhat ordinary drivers.

Thanks for the advice and the offer. I'm not unhappy with them but always looking for ways to improve.

I'm interested in what you're saying here. I just had a tweeter apparently go south on me in a CX-17. I have not investigated yet, but I was surprised as I don't believe they have a lot of hours on them.

Also, are these the same tweeters as in Timewindow 1's?

Drugolf, can you speak to your statement about fragile tweeters? Thanks in advance.
 
They're just getting long in the tooth by now. I am basing that on the various comments I read when I was working on the pair I had. I don't recall what the issue was if there was a specific one. Yes the same as in the TW's and a hard to come by when needed, which may be more the issue.

Drugolf: I hope that's not the case. I have early TW 1s and don't need to be replacing tweeters in them.

BTW, with winter coming avatar girl really should cover up before she gets a chill.
 
Well you might want to keep your eyes peeled for some CX-27 that might come along cheap on the market for back-up tweeters....or similar. I cant recall if the 17's have the same ones.
 
I believe that most of the tweeters used by DCM were made by Phillips. I don't recall a specific model but I am guessing that they might be fairly easy to come by once you nail down the exact model number.

I'll be curious to hear what you find for replacements and how they sound compared to the original.
 
I have been looking for 27's for a long time but they just aren't around here. If I found some they would most likely become daily drivers for one of my system since I like the 17's very much and I'm sure I'd like the 27's as much if not more.

World of difference IMO between 17’a and 27’s. I had TF600’s and TW1’s as well as 27’s. Of the 3 the 27’s were the last to go when it came time to thin things out.
