DCM KX-12 Midrange question

Reading your chatter... just got a pair of kx10s. Read 3.6 ohm on both. Supposed to be 8ohm... looked at xovers glue all melted... need schematis for the series 2 rev 3 1997
.... or at least xover hz for each stage... woofer say 300hz mid say 4.5k ect... any one have the specs or values... would be appr... would build my own xover ... need help!!
 
An 8 ohm impedance driver will measure about 5-6 ohms DC resistance. 3.6 sounds like a 4 ohm driver, or...

I don't know how this xover is constructed but if it's fairly conventional, there is an inductor in series with the woofer, and your 3.6 ohms is basically the DC resistance of that inductor + woofer voice coil. The other drivers would be blocked by capacitors. Unless the midrange doesn't have a cap, only an inductor, in which case the mid and woofer are in parallel which is why your reading at the input terminals is more like a 4 ohm impedance driver. Not sure that makes sense, usually a mid in a cheaply made speaker will have no cap, i.e. it runs wide open from its lower xover frequency all the way up, and falls off naturally. So it would have a cap and no inductor. But who knows. Anyway you can check each driver by itself, that's better anyway.

I'd be checking the crossover components for damage and replacing caps and resistors as necessary, rather than try to build a new crossover. If the inductors are OK the rest can be replaced relatively cheaply.
 
Oh i agree but.... these xovers are prestidigital time aligned..... they are very complcated with resisters and multiple caps and inductors all mounted to a printed board.. very difficult to figure out what's in parallel or series...can't find any specs on them..i really need the schematics for the xovers.. or at least the xover points for each stage.
By theway the inductors would add resistance since they would be in series ... just saying.
 
They are rather cheaply built... and if they weren't abused.... i would not have this problem... all the reviews ive read about these speakers agree that the imaging and vocals are very clear... i would like to use them for my HT set up as the front mains.... ive got 2 - 10s for my subs.... and dynaco's for my surrounds
 
Can you read any of the values on the existing crossover parts? If you post some pics and describe what wires go where off the crossover, it may be possible to work out a schematic.

Only thing that usually isn't labeled is the inductor coils, but those can be measured with an inductance meter, unless they're melted.
