DCM TF 1000 for $250. Worth it?

I found a listing on craigslist advertising these speakers for $250, they look like they're in good shape and the seller says that they have been "recently gone through". I was wondering if they would be a good deal and an upgrade to what I currently have. Currently, I'm using a set of TF600s, and they are sounding great. Should I upgrade to the TF1000?

Sure - if they are in clean shape and play nice - if you have the room, and its no big deal to get them, why not?
The 600s are nice but the higher number have deeper base.

I did a DCM comparison here a couple years back -
here are the specs from the factory sheets ...

DCM TF600 - newer series
6.5 woofer (butyl surround)
6.5 Mid-bass driver (butyl surround)
0.75 Coaxial tweeter
2 rear facing tweeters (3 tweeters total)
rear port

30Hz - 20kHz
92db/1watt/1 meter

==========================================================

DCM TF1000 - older series
8" Woofer
4" Midrange
.75" Tweeter
front port (There are no rear drivers)

26Hz - 20KHz
91db/1watt/1 meter

==========================================================

I have owned many DCM TFs but never a pair of. TF1000s. I currently own a set of TF600'S and love the sound. They have a bit of coloration in the mids. Not the most accurate speakers but everything just seems to sound good on them. I would guess that the TF1000s are a bit more detailed due to the 4" mid and better quality tweeter. A lot of people feel the TF600 may be the best of the TF series. I say buy them and do an A/B comparison. You can allways sell the pair you like least although you could wind up keeping both. Good luck!

Different animals. Most who love the 600s do so at least in part due to the rear drivers adding ambiance. I don't know if they are "better" or not, but I wouldn't assume much just from being in the same series in this case.

A quick HiFiShark search shows that the price is at the low end of market. You may never find a clean pair lower.

I saw that after I posted- he mentions ebay at 700 then goes down lower at the bottom of the ad. I am pretty sure they have water/mold issues. Maybe the whole kit with Luxman started out at a 1000?

Looks like they are being stored upside down in a basement or garage. I imagine that the tops are in less than pristine condition.

I have the TF700's since new. They are wonderful speakers. The
TF1000's are the same but with a bit better bass extension. I think they go down to 28Hz vs 30Hz for the TF700.
Great price, go for it! Before they are gone!
