DCM time window 1a + 2 cx - 17

I am new to this forum , lurking here since the summer .
I have a pair of TW 1a speakers :If I were to build a taller box to add 2 speakers from 2 pair of CX- 17 speakers using all the original crossovers wired in series positive to positive negative to negative then out to receiver would it work (Sound right) & how much receiver power will I need to drive this setup ?

Might be a lot of work to get the TW1a apart ... Have you tried to raise the tw1a 10-12 inches off the ground ?

I find both my tw3 and tw1 sound better 12 inchs higher

Makes a big difference. I would do that and put the 17's to the side or behind as rear speakers just a thought

The tw1a and 17's voiced really close as far as I can tell .

I have tw3 in front and tw1 on the sides I am loving it.

The plan is to make surround sound setup with the DCM speakers .
front TW3, side TW1, rear TF600 or TF350 and CX17 or CX27 as center if I think it needs it.

I hope Sherwood Newcastle P965 and A965 will do these justice.

I have been using TF 600`s on A & CX 17 on B with a Luxman R 117 The TW 1a`s are hooked up to a HK 730 at the moment . I have surround in my studio but at night I like the 2 channel sound .

I would wager that it would not sound right.

The TW and cx probably have two different crossovers that work with the driver configuration and cabinet design/shape. This is especially true for the TW's, as they are unique. The CX-17 is also a transmission line design, come to think of it, so the same applies there.

What you would likely end up with is a monstrosity that would sound very little like a time window or a CX-17, and probably worse than either.

Experiment, in the meantime. stack them up on top of each other, wire them in series, and see what you get.
If you find a combination you like, use them like that.

But if you want to mess with something, sell them and make something else with the $. If they are in good shape, they are worth $ still.

Some guy on this forum tore apart a set of DCM timeframe 600's and redesigned them to end up with a speaker that was less than the sum of its parts, and everybody just wept.

Thank you for this advice ! I was afraid of that possibility . I will leave well enough be . I love the DCM speakers as they are too . I have one other Question regarding my CX 17`s the tweeters look different from every picture I can find online , any Idea about these are ? Thanks , S

That is a radio shack piezo tweeter, totally not correct for the job You can get the correct one from parts express or I think DCM might still sell the tweets. I think the one at parts express is a vifa of some kind....Its in a thread somewhere around here.

I know the originals are 8 ohms do you know the watts ?

I have my TW's and DCM "Fans" stacked, the best sound I have ever had in my system. Play them together and see what happens.

If you are this bored and looking for a hobby, try macrame. Don't mess with DCM speakers unless you're interested in screwing up 2 great pairs of speakers.

If you want a project, try recapping and tighening up your old TWs, there's lots of threads here on that topic.

I want to thank you all for your helpful replies ! The tweeters I ordered from an Ebay seller arrived and tested good . After the install I realized how much more musical the CX 17 `s are . : o )
My good luck to also receive 2 TF 700 & 1 TF 600 crossovers , I will at some point find out how to test if these are working ...
