DCM Timeframe 400

suprpntr

closet vintage stereo fan
Just picked up some dcm timeframe 400. Think I got a good deal on them. So far, so good they sound great on my marantz. The cloth does not come off easily so I can't see the surrounds. They do look good from what I can see through the cloth.

Any other owners out there? Anyone have any info on them?

I have a pair of 300s, you've got to remove the wood plate on top, then the sock slips down. Surrounds are rubber, most likely are still OK.

Have had the 700, s still have 600's and 400's. To me the 400 and 600 sound the best when a decent amp is driving them

Great! looks like there are a few owners that like them. I took a chance, cost $75.00. I like the look, and they sound pretty good too. Anyone have any problem with them?

As far as the surrounds, they used different material on different models? I contacted dcm and looks like they only have the woofers as replacements. What happens if the tweeters go?

The surrounds are butyl rubber so you are not as likely to have a problem as with the 200/300 series. Good find, hold on to them.

Congrats. I just got a pair of TF600 the other day. You can go to the DCM website and they have a pdf file on the TF400. Mine sound great, it just need to play around with them to get the best sound. I understand, 4-8 inches from the wall without blocking the vent in the back and in the corners is best.

Congrats to you too. They seem to be good speakers. I have had a pair of QED's for years. Figured I'd take a chance on these 400. So far so good. I'm going to check out that website, thanks

I have the 600's and had a set of the 250's.

I was blown away by the 250's. They have Vifa tweeters in them!

I know where there is a set of the 400's, may have to get them...:scratch2:

Yeah, the guy I got mine from actually had 2 pairs, one with natural oak, the other black. I took the black. He would have offered me a break to take both. Never having had these particular speakers, only having me QED's, wasn't sure enough.

But now, thinking maybe I should have taken them both.

24hrs later they still sound and look great...except for one small hole in the cloth.

I guess according to this forum one can never have too many speakers...

Having too many speakers is what is keeping me from setting these up properly in my room. I can only stack speakers so much!!!

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you get them for?

I had the 600's & was taken aback on the great bass output from the two 6.5" mid woofers!
They were given to me but were in poor condition. I took black headliner material and recovered the cabinets, which actually tuned pretty decent!
They were impressive sounding speakers, load of bass and had a huge spacial foot print. I bet the 400's are not far from that target!

Wow, lots of responses here!

The guy that uses these speakers for rear surrounds must have a monster system!

The positive feedback make me feel lucky to have found these tf 400's. Now I just found out they are 6ohm. My marantz seems to run a bit warmer at high volume but I dont' think it too outragious. Should I have any concerns?

I know where to get another pair. Don't really have a place for them but thinking hard about it.

Again, one can never have too many speakers, right?

I have a pair of tf-275s I picked up cheap. They sound amazingly good with a little fill in bass below 80hz. I'd love to find some 400-500-600s.

Great pick-up and glad to see you enjoy them.

Gee do we have enough people here to start a DCM forum or are we just a real vocal minority whenever there is a post about DCM .... :D

sheepish grin..

Being one of those people that can't leave well enough alone (can you say Icarus?) I've been furtively glancing at my beloved original design Time Windows and my stash of EMIT K and R tweeters from my Infinity rescue and saldvage activities, I can't help but wonder if the compatability is there to accommodate switching the already great dome tweeters in favor of 4 fresh Infinity EMIT's...maybe just the two outside ones?

I'm a very twisted individual, I know...
but let one of the originals blow, I'll be dead on that change!!
