Death cap on 800c

Which cap is the death cap on an 800c? SR# 30001 to 39999
I just purchased some safety caps for other projects and have spares.
Which would work best here?
.047uf, .01uf or .02uf. All are 275 vac X2 film safety caps.
Or do I even need one for the 800c?

Yes, DON'T increase this cap, and use a UL AC rated part. I'd remove the resistor or replace it with one with a high-voltage rating like this one: http://ca.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...=sGAEpiMZZMtlubZbdhIBIL6aF40j1MfhZigr1U8glrc= Mouser stocks 1 meg, which is close enough... will set you back 19 cents.

The purpose of the resistor is to drain off static charge when an outside antenna is used.

I removed both parts on my 800C and installed a 3-wire cord (cord had been cut to about 12", so I had to change it anyway...)

hmm. odd that I never even heard that term during my entire 500c restore. I'll look into that. thanks for that.
 
Keith to further clarify. Any cap that is connected to the AC line and fails SHORT is classified as a "DEATH CAP" as it will allow full line voltage to the chassis. The specific cap we denote by defination as a Death Cap is actually an RF Suppression cap located before the Power transformer. It helped or suppressed line intererence way back when 3 wire power cords on appliances were uncommon. The cap that should be used is one that will fail "OPEN", hence not allowing line voltage to the chassis.

The cap on your's that should be replaced (Standard ceramic cap), is C103. Replace it with a .01uf X1/Y2 250V cap. It's surge rated to 1500V. Good link here that explains it in terms I can understand.......

It is indeed singing, and sounds wonderful. I was having some volume control issues, and decided to have it repaired/replaced. I removed it last week, and plan on dropping it in the mail tomorrow.

I'll have to look my death cap. I'm pretty sure I replaced all the caps with the metalbone restore kit. but that was a while back.

SO, after I get the volume control/switch reinstalled, I expect that this thing will be unbelievable. I mean, I did this restore to use the 500c as my centerpiece unit, so I'm putting a lot into it.

It'll take something pretty special to make my 800c "move over".

Thanks Martin. No,haven't posted any completed pics, cause I still need to find a case, and a few mor cosmetic issues. Soon though.
