Decatur GA tube amp hoard starts Wednesday

I love the "wealthy Doctor" line, ... looks pretty mediocre for a wealthy Doctor (I know plenty of Doctors, the entire place could be replaced monthly with a successful Surgeon's salary).

Seems like the firearms must have been sold separately or will be listed separately, the audio is interesting but being in the greater Atlanta area I wouldn't expect any deals nor easy access (lined up the evening before most likely). An auction like this an hour from any mid-size city OTOH would be great picking.

I agree that it doesn't look like the owner answered to any partner or spouse, at least in recent history.

It all depends on the Doctor. My mom works Administration in a very large hospital so i get to meet lots of doctors. I've been to modest and palatial homes, seen exotic car collections vs a BMW, etc. Most of them are extremely nice, humble people that have a job that affords them life's nicer things.

One of them drives a modest Japanese sedan but has a Lucchese boot collection numbering into the hundreds. All exotic leathers which are extremely expensive. He grew up in Texas and could never afford a "nice" pair of boots until now.

Looks like KT-88 style tubed. Bob Latino VTA maybe? http://www.tubes4hifi.com/bob.htm no affiliation.
The layout looks right, but the chassis don't. One looks like it may have big caps on top instead of the cap can. Maybe a later version from one of the earlier companies that bought the Dynaco name? There was at leased one company that tried to revive the name and ST-70. There is a new version out now under the Dynaco name. It is different from the VTA and Dynakit clones though.
I built and have one of the VTA ST-70's. It's a nice amp.

I'm a physician and my daily driver is a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid 5 spd with over 300,000 miles on the odometer. It's all about what's important to you. I like cars, but the Ferrari I see driving down the road these days looks more like a money pit liability rather than a status symbol chick magnet like it did 30 years ago. My wife and I live below our means because we don't need much in general, and I want to retire as soon as I can justify it. My friends say I can already afford it, but my wife the CPA says "git your ass back to work..." So for now, I spend a little here and there on good whisky, good cigars, good audio gear and an occasional trip somewhere nice.... In all honesty, what more do you need?

The drill press and test gear make me wonder whether some of the amps are DIY.

Lots of those are DIY. The previous owner either built them or knew someone who did. They look pretty nice, nice enough that I wonder if the owner was an AKer.

I was unable to attend this morning, but a friend went, was third in line, and spent about $4000 on what he believes is about $15,000-$20,000 worth of equipment. He told me about some of the pieces he got, but I spend so much time in the shallow part of the pool, most of it when right over my head.

I’m hoping for some more on scene reports. There is a much to covet for the typical AK member among that stash.

Must've been a crazy scene over there yesterday. Stopped by earlier today and witnessed a 3-floor frenzy with equipment and records on every level. Rooms sans sunlight were poorly lit, and in general disarray with a blanket of staleness. Pinball machines, animal trophies, ammo, gun cases, safes, stogies, Dynaco amps, Crown RTR, VPI machine, Tannoys, NIB Genalex Gold Lion and RCA tubes were long gone. Witnessed the following sales/prices during my visit:
Phase Linear Amps $275/each
Amina Preamp $700
Pair of undetermined speakers $1K/each
There was still a variety of Chinese tube amps and preamps available: VAA-L1, VAA-100Es, and an Antique Sound USA Model PA-8 all for $700/each, test equipment, albums, CDs and smalls to peruse. Came away with a stack of albums including MFSLs, Analogue Productions RTI test pressings, and Japanese cut vinyl for $2/each, and a 24 box of tubes comprised of GE 6550As, Philips 6SN7WGTAs, and RCA & Telefunken 12AX7s for $20. No complaints.

Finally made it there today. The carnage was everywhere. No good audiophile, or Japanese records to be had but I did manage to leave with 54 records. No components left, but several of the apparently overpriced $700 tube amps were still there.

And I came home with an additional 32 records from the local GW.
