decware zkit1: need help troubleshooting--voltages are off(eek)

Hi Roger,

Do you have the tubes installed while getting those voltages?

Is there a schematic somewhere?

Is the Edcor PT you used the recommended one with the right voltages expect for the kit?

The mod mentioned, is there a link to that somewhere?

I'd be glad to do my best to help you get going.

Yes the tubes are in when I get those voltages.

Will post the schematic when I get back from brunch. The edcors are recommended.

The mod is to connect the pins of the Russian power tube suggested for the amp. With el84s the pins are connected internally so the mod is not needed for those.

A local friend who built one of these tells me I'm missing some jumpers (the "j" locations on the board). I'll copy his suggestion into this thread in a bit.
 
Just had a suggestion on the decware forum to change how the output trafos are wired. Will try that and add the jumpers and report back

i put in the missing jumpers. also, a guy on the decware forum noticed 2 other wiring issues. so i am now hitting my voltages.

will try it with a source and some speakers!

I'm glad to see you are getting proper readings on your ZKit1.

You inspired me to have another look at my ZKits project. I made two of them and ran them as monoblocks. I never found the right speakers to pair them with so they sat idle for a while. In the mean time I'd picked up a pair of EV 12trxbs and put them in a very simple Bass reflex cabinet. They sound fantastic together. I had always made the mistake of running those amps on speakers that were not efficient enough, or did not have enough cone. The big cone falls off in the upper regions, but the horn comes in nicely. It also satisfies my point-source desires. At any rate, please keep us informed about the project. I've been pretty impressed with Steve's work. Decware has an open house each October- he usually runs anything in the house if you ask. He's a really nice guy.
