I replaced the VD1212, now the relay circuit works fine.
I also got rid of the pesky fuse resistors, I measured them and they were all out of spec: 2 of them read about 550 ohm, the others were in the 300 ohm range.
I've still a minor problem: when connected to the main AC there's some buzz on both channels which goes away if I put the amp on the tone & filter position. Other positions are buzzy. This doesn't happen when I power it via a dim light bulb tester. Could be the AC socket? I have not tried another socket yet, this thing is damn heavy to move around ;-)
