Definitive Technology Mythos ST

I just found out that some Def Tech Mythos ST speakers that I picked up at an auction, one of them has a "blown" subwoofer. I need to talk more with the repair guy, but it sounds like he's having a hard time finding a replacement. A pretty obscure ask but I thought I'd try here--any leads on a replacement subwoofer for the Def Tech Mythos ST? Would one from the Mythos STS work? Thanks!

Best bet would be either eBay, or contact Definitive and see if they still have them. Regarding the STS subwoofer, I'm not really familiar with these models, but according to this thread on AVSForum, they are a different size.

BTW, since these are powered subwoofers, have you confirmed that the problem is the driver and not the amp?

Many thanks for the response! Turns out it is both the subwoofer itself AND the amp--he said something about three....diodes? Or whatever those parts would be. But he said no use repairing the amp until/unless we can get a replacement sub. Voice coil was rubbing on----some damn part, froze up, blew the amp, ruined the sub itself, etc. Other thought===do some run these guys without using/hooking up the subs, maybe use a separate sub that they prefer, or could someone run these with just one sub working and that would be fine? I don't have a use for these myself, our house is too small basically, so wondering if there would be buyers out there for a pair of these legendary speakers if one sub is out of commission. Many thanks for any thoughts you might have!

ps granite bases, wth? Lol. If I think I could ship these to a buyer, I think I would remove the base and send those separately, good lord they are heavy. As are the towers themselves of course.

PPS Yes, a different size, exactly, and the shape is oval, so even though the STS sub driver is smaller, fitting it into that larger hole wouldn't really work.

Selling big speakers is always difficult, and unless you can get corporate rates for shipping, unlikely to be worthwhile to sell anywhere but locally. Figure you're going to be close to 85 lbs after packaging.

Judging by the fact that they call the midrange a midrange and not a midwoofer, while I couldn't find it published anywhere, my guess is that the crossover frequency between the sub and the midrange is high enough that you'll be missing a lot of sound if you try to run one without the sub.

Thanks for the response, ok, info to ponder.
