Denon 2030CI Remote Replacement and Pairing Question

Long time listener, first time caller...

I recently picked up a very nice, used Denon DVD-2030CI for CDs and SACDs. It works just fine and I'm happy with it. However, it did not come with a remote. I found a replacement (RC-1037) on ebay for a not so cool $30.

However, this replacement remote has no effect on the cd/dvdplayer. I don't know if there is an infrared pairing that needs to occur or if the replacement remote itself is broken. Since the unit is so old, I can't find very much info online.

Any ideas? I'd really appreciate anyone who can help and/or has dealt with this in the past.

I don't remember having to pair any Denon remote with any Denon components I've owned, and that's been quite a few.

Is it a genuine Denon remote or one of those "replacement" remotes sold on eBay? Those replacements are usually barely usable at best.
