Denon 4802/Mcintosh C2200 passthrough

Hello,
I have had my C2200 for a couple of years now and I am loving it. One feature that has intrigued me of late, is the C2200's passthrough feature. I have been trying to get my Denon 4802 receiver and the Mac to play along with no success. I have the Denon's zone output hooked up to the Mac's passthrough jack and the Denon's L/R high level outputs hooked up into the Mac's AUX input. The passtrough feature in the Mac has been actvated per the manual's instructions. Is there something I'm missing here? I should point out that previous to this experience, I was COMPLETELY ignorant to the concept of trigger out puts and the like, so I am still in the midst of wrapping my mind around that. HELP?

If I remember correctly the idea is to use the amp driving the main speakers for both 2 channel via the input and volume control of the Mac preamp and bypass the Mac preamp's volume control and input selector when doing mutichannel. The theater receiver is input switcher and volume control for multi channel.

Center, sub, surround speakers come off the theater speaker connections.
Left and right main output goes to the BYPASS input; no speakers are hooked up to theater receiver's LR speakers.
Left and right are now driven thru the Mac preamp to the amp for theater when bypassed but the preamp is fully functional for traditional 2 channel.
Balancing levels can be tricky.

When your C2200 preamp is in pass through it will read Pass Thru on the front display. When you turn on your Denon does C2200 read Pass Thru? if not you are not connected correctly or have not programed your C2200 for this function. You will turn on the Pass Through function in C2200 set up menu.

If you are in Pass Thru on C2200 there are no issues adjusting volume since the C2200 is at unity gain and its' volume control no longer works in Pass Thru. In pass through C2200 is like a piece of wire but all left right audio will go through all of the audio circuitry so you will have C2200 sound.

Thanks,

Thanks for the responses!

@c dk: I do get a signal when playing the Denon through the C2200, but the C2200's volume control is completely independent from the Denon so I know the passthrough is not configured properly.

@ron-c: I believe that the C2200's passthrough has been setup properly. I think the problem is that the Denon is going to require one of their proprietary cables (as is the case with most of their gear) to get its trigger output going.

More research to be done. At least I know I'm not that far off. Thanks again!

You will need a 5 volt or higher trigger signal from the Denon to the C2200 pass through jack mounted on the rear of C2200. If the Denon does not have and output trigger jack then it will not work for Pass Through. These should be male to male 1/8', stereo cables by the way.

Thanks again,
Ron-C
