Denon AVP-5000

Hi, Purchased the Denon AVP-5000 at a very cheap price but without the original RC-771 remote control. The seller gave me another Denon remote controller RC-853 instead. Upon power up, the display seems to function as expected and I can also hear the clicking of relay when I press the input selectors. However, I do not see any output on any of the channels F, R or Centre for any of the inputs. Also, I don’t hear anything via the headphones too. Any settings on the Main unit that I need to adjust ?
Secondly, any idea, how can I reset this Main unit to factory settings ?
Lastly, can this RC-853 remote be programmed for AVP-5000 functionality ?

Service manual is here. If you're unable to access HiFi Engine, pm me your email address and I'll send it to you (it's too large to post on AK). If there are no instructions in there for doing a factory reset, then there's probably no way to do it.

Looking at the RC-853, I doubt it can be programmed to support your preamp. Because of the propietary nature of the controls on the original remote, I doubt you'll find any other remote (except possibly a Denon remote for an AVR from the same era) to support all those buttons. If they're not replicated on the front panel, your best bet might be a Harmony remote (assuming you can still find one; Logitech has discontinued the line but is still supporting them), which will allow you to assign any function to any button on said remote. After you've got everything on the preamp set the way you want, you can reprogram the remote for the functions you need in day-to-day operation.

Thank you, @swechsler, for your reply. Does it mean to say, the AVP-5000, without the remote is useless ?
I think the Outputs are set to OFF. Any HW solution to overcome, if this is the case ?

Yes, I checked the Manual and also the controls underneath the flip-panel on the Main unit. Could not see any switches for Output On-Off.
One question to all members having this AVP-5000, during the operation, if the user has switched the Outputs to OFF using a Remote control, upon subsequent Power On-Off of the Main unit after a prolong period of time, will this earlier setting stay (done via Remote) or will get reset to factory default ?
 
Output on/off is normally referred to as a muting control. Not all preamps have it. Is there any mention of it in the manual? Also, muting will typically be displayed on the front panel in some way, and frequently will be defeated when the volume control is changed (assuming a digital volume control). If not, there's a decent chance that your preamp is defective.
 
Thanks again @swechsler. Yes, I can see the muting button on the RC-853 remote and it works on AVP-5000. I can see the Muting letters on the Main Unit display, however, still no output. I my opinion, Muting and On/Off are separate things. Muting reduces the output level to a very low level, perhaps -60dB, while the On/Off shuts it Off completely.

It depends on the component. Sometimes, muting just shuts off the output completely. At any rate, if there is no mention in the manual of an output on/off (and I've never heard or such a thing that would also shut off the headphone output) I think you've got a problem with the preamp, as I noted earlier.

Thanks for being patient with me @swechsler. I guess you are right, some issue with the Preamp electronics. I will proceed to peep inside the AVP-5000. If I am able to debug successfully, will certainly post an update.:thumbsup:
And yes, I do have the SM.
